Derek Blois

Derek Blois was born and lived his early years on the coast of Essex, England, always messing about in boats and on the water.  After leaving school and serving in the Essex Constabulary for a few years, Derek then felt the call of the creative urge when, leaving the Police, he spent five years at Art Schools in Colchester and Brighton finishing with a BA (Hons) in Illustration and Design. He then moved to London to work in various design agencies and after a couple of years, Derek and his family moved to north Norfolk and co-founded Adept Design, a design and creative agency. (www.adeptdesign.co.uk).

After 30 years in the business with his wife Liz and with their two sons all grown up, he decided to call it a day and sold up the business and retired to concentrate a little more on his painting and enjoy his grandchildren, his boat on the north Norfolk coast (and a few other things).

With his interest in military, maritime and aviation, Derek was commissioned to paint a scenario of the recent successful Libyan conflict involving British forces, the Royal Navy’s HMS Ocean and the Army Air Corps Apache attack helicopters. He was invited to present the painting on board HMS Ocean to the Captain and crew.

Numerous commissions have followed within the military and some of these can be seen on his website www.oilsandwatercolours.co.uk and are available as quality prints. His website also shows original paintings available for purchase and the other spheres of work he is involved with.

So, with regular commissions and various exhibitions, Derek’s plans for retirement have changed significantly with much of his time now spent  in front of the easel.
