Freethorpe Community Primary School

Their Gorilla project started with every child in the school being asked to design a gorilla, which showed the things that were really important to them personally.  These initial designs were shown within each class; they then took the most popular designs and themes from each of the class and asked the whole school to consider what was important to us all.  The overwhelming choice of the children of all ages, was the importance of the school, the school community and of course friends.

Their gorilla is a complex collage of every child, their opinions and ideas interwoven to make a new member of their school community.  Finally they researched Kinyarwanda, one language of Rwanda where the Gorillas live, they chose the name Ubwana for their Gorilla, this means Childhood.
