Debbie Jay from Sprowston Community High School said

“Having taken part in the ‘Go Elephants project’, our students were really excited to be part of the ‘Wild in Art’ project 2013 and have the opportunity to decorate our very own gorilla. Inspired to paint animals in the style of Tinga Tinga Artists Year 8 students combined their writing and art talents to create animal poems and imagery which decorate our gorilla, who they nicknamed Alan.

The imaginative story-telling elements of this project inspired our students to be hugely creative and supported the development of their literacy skills. We are very proud of their achievements. Many thanks to the Art Department and our Literacy Coordinator, Rohan Mason, for helping to make this happen.”

Our students were asked: How will our gorilla support developing a community spirit in Norwich?

  • “It bought our community together by making a gallery of art for all to see and has a good influence on our school”
  • “It helps us to understand other cultures through art”
  • “It will go in the city and it shows our school does fun things”
